We track a small, hand-checked set of carriers rather than every bag on the market. These are recommendations, not an exhaustive list.

  • • Do not include the tail in the length.
  • • Measure while your pet is standing naturally.
  • • Ears count if they are the highest point.
  • • Your pet must be able to stand, turn around, and lie down in the carrier.

Length: measure from the nose to the base of the tail. Do not include the tail.

Standing height: floor to the top of the shoulders or head while your pet stands normally.

Width: across the widest point, such as shoulders or hips. Handy when comparing carriers.

Weight: weigh yourself holding your pet, then subtract your own weight. You can also use a pet scale.

Whatever carrier you choose, your pet must still be able to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably inside it.
